For the majority of American kids (100% including me when I was in school), you may hear a sigh or groan when you say it’s time for school. In Burundi, there may be some sighs, but it is largely recognized as a privilege. Not every child can go to school. Many cannot afford the school uniform and the few notebooks they must purchase to attend. Some have ill parents, so they must work or help in the garden instead of attending classes.
The orphanage we work with was unsure if every child would have the means to attend school this year. We were able to discuss this with Cedrick, who is our boots on the ground, eyes and ears, and he is the very hands and feet of Jesus to these children so often. Cedrick is so much more than a guy we picked to help just because he is close to the orphanage in proximity. Cedrick’s heart is for the orphan, just like God’s heart is. Cedrick is also a loyal, trustworthy man. We are so blessed to have him as a part of World Renewal Burundi. His salary is $100 a month, but he is priceless to this ministry.
After discussing the needs, we received some funds from donors and sent $300 to be used for the orphans’ school needs. 35 students received school materials, 17 students received new uniforms, and Cedrick was even able to buy rice and beans, and the children ate lunch during this materials distribution.
In his own words, Cedrick says, “The children were very happy and truly appreciate your support. Thanks to you, the children at Nezerwa Centre are now equipped with the school materials needed to start the new academic year.”
Every donation goes to make an impact in the lives of 50 orphans in the world’s poorest country. If you’re interested in giving (this includes Cedrick’s salary) click here. God loves these precious children.
In our World Renewal prayer meeting, the President of World Renewal prayed and shared how he loves to lay hands on each of his grandchildren and pray over them as they begin a new school year. He then asked God to do that for these 50 children since we can’t be there to physically do so. Giving is not the only thing you can do. Each of these children has a name and a story, in fact, most have a heart-wrenching story that we cannot imagine here in the U.S.. Though we may never know them we certainly can pray to the God who knows, cares and intercedes on their behalf. Will you take these precious children before the Lord today?
Here is a video of the children dancing and singing in thanks for receiving the notebooks and uniforms.
