One of my main jobs while we are in Burundi will be teaching English to the staff of Sister Connection. A lot of the staff are actually already quite amazing English speakers, but they also see the value in always learning more. Josh and Josiah are in Burundi right now and Josh told me he has spoke to a few of the staff members and they said they are very excited for me to teach them English. I am going to try to put into words what that means to my heart.
This staff of Sister Connection, they are a part of my heart. I love them so deeply, they are family to me. When God took me to Burundi on my first trip in 2009 I had been working with Sister Connection for almost a year and conversing through e-mail with some of the staff, so when I got to meet them face to face we had an instant bond. Through the years God knit me to these people.
These are the ones I love so much, these are the ones on the front lines every single day serving the least of these. They are the ones serving the widows and orphans that are so close to the heart of God. They visit them in the hospital, they pray for them, they make decisions of how to best care for the child whose mom and dad passed away, they are the ones who serve in extremely difficult situations.
So, for me to have time with the staff to encourage them, get to know them even deeper and teach them a useful skill of language is simply put a deep honor for me.
Please, pray for me as I prepare lessons and as I will be learning as I go what this will look like to teach multiple levels in multiple locations around the country. I am so excited for this opportunity and I know it will be a learning process for me, which entails mistakes to learn from them. Also, please, be praying for Josh, Josiah and all the team in Burundi now as they work with locals on the security wall to our future home/SC guest house. I’m so excited to be there as a family soon, God willing!!!!
