So much to write about! We just got back to Burundi from a nice trip to Kenya to visit with my parents. We weren’t able to access the account on our trip, so today we checked and we have received enough money to purchase 375 blankets!!!!!!!!! That is just incredible!!!! We are so excited!!! We have been able to purchase almost 100 so far and have only been in country long enough to hand out about 20. We have a lot of work to do in December and January to hand out hundreds of blankets!!
Today we bought 50 from a local shop. We told the owner if he could get more blankets, we would buy them. Let me tell you that was a very happy man today! Now we’ll be passing them out to widows and orphans.
I was recently asked, if you hit your goal of 155 what will you do with the rest? Well, in some ways the good thing in Burundi is the needs will never end. I’m often reminded of Jesus’ words “the poor you will always have with you.” There are over 1,000 unsponsored widows and often those widows have orphans they care for, either their own children or family or friends children they have taken in due to death of the mom and dad or abandonment. So, we will keep buying blankets and we will keep giving away blankets as people feel led to give. Click HERE to give!
Here are some photos of us giving blankets to widows in a region north of where we live. Most of these women sleep on concrete or dirt floor, maybe banana leaves and the precious few may have a fabric they sleep on. Even coming back from Kenya we are chilly here up in the mountains and it is rainy season so if they get wet, those are the only clothes they own, and at night they are wet and cold. These blankets are such a gift, they’re so simple, they’re not fancy and they’re not expensive. This blanket will not solve all of this widows problems, but our deepest prayer is that each one of these widows and orphans will never doubt the love of God the Father, and that they will be reminded they are not forgotten as they wrap this blanket around themselves and around their children every night.

Thank you for your generosity! God has used you to humble and amaze us yet again. He is using you to take care of the widow and orphan in their distress. He is using you to remind them He is their husband, their father, and their defender! All praise and glory to Him alone!
