The last few years have been tumultuous at best. There were tears we never thought we’d cry, pain we never wanted to feel, and, honestly, most of the time, hope felt like a tiny flame. That little flame may not warm you at all in the dark, but it certainly is more of a beacon. It felt more like a strong lighthouse barely visible through the raging storm, and each of us kept our eyes fixed on the light.
It is not the prettiest of sights, and yet the depth of what each of us has learned/is learning about the tiniest flame of hope is what has birthed something beautiful.
I have started a new business called Neural Pathways of Hope. It is a cognitive training program offering hope to those struggling with cognitive skills: memory, focus, processing, logic and reasoning, comprehension and executive functioning. The Equipping Minds program developed by Dr. Carol Brown, is completely game based, it is fun challenges that help strengthen areas of the brain simultaneously. It takes a holistic approach not just targeting cognitive skills, but addressing other issues occurring like primitive reflexes, nutrition, or auditory processing in depth.
For our family the program was the little flame in a dark place where our precious boy was struggling in ways we could not fully understand or grasp and struggled to get the help he needed in Africa. Because of these challenges, once we began the program and I got to know Dr. Carol Brown it wasn’t possible for me to keep it to ourselves.
I know firsthand what it is like to struggle with memory or executive functioning and I know firsthand the heartbreak a parent can face with a child’s massive cognitive struggles. It impacts all areas of life. Most have become quite adept at making the changes they need to function the best they can in daily life in spite of their cognitive struggles. But what if there was hope?
What if the head injury after that car accident or stroke wasn’t the final say on your brains function for the rest of your life? What if those concussions from sports, or a fall don’t have to mean permanent damage? What if that diagnosis of autism or ADHD doesn’t have to define you or your loved one and where there are weaknesses they can be strengthened? What if that line of dementia in your family doesn’t mean you have to travel the same path? The brain is a phenomenal thing and there has been such amazing findings on neuroplasticity, the brains ability to change. There is hope! That is why I started this business and why it is called Neural Pathways of Hope.
Life won’t be perfect this side of Heaven, there will still be difficulties, diagnoses and even death. But in the midst of the darkness there is always a small flame, a lighthouse for the weary traveler. To learn more about my new business and the Equipping Minds program I utilize click here!
